Annual Save Our Swinging Bridge 5K Run/Walk

We had great weather, great participants and wonderful volunteers for the 5th Annual Save Our Swinging Bridge 5K on April 20th in Topsham's lower village. This event is a USATF sanctioned event. Our youngest finisher was six years old and our oldest seventy-one--both right from Brunswick. The event raised $1836 that will benefit the maintenance and beautification of the Swinging Bridge.
Next year we want to increase participation by at least twenty additional registrations. That would add $360 -$400. Since there will not be additional costs, that will put us over the $2000 mark.
We had so many people help with the race. Five K Sports Race Management provides timing, finish line and results. For everything else we depend on volunteers.

Our sponsors this year were: Androscogging Dental Center, Border Trust, Hannaford Supermarkets, Rotary Club of Topsham Expresso, Topsham & Brunswick Parks & Recreation Departments.
We are very grateful for the restaurants and merchants who donated gift certficates or merchandise. Our top Overall male and female 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners were awarded gift baskets from Topsham's Village Candle with other gift certificates and gifts tucked into the baskets.. Then Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar, Bangkok Garden Restaurant, Back Street Bistro, The Great Impasta, Hannaford Supermarkets, Henry Marty Restaurant, Frontier Café, New England Medical Fitness, Pedro O'Haras, Red Dragon Toys, Richard's Restaurant, Sea Dog Brewing Co.and Kennebec Tavern all donated gift certificates given to first place age category winners.
At eight o'clock Suzanne Maha of the Barn Door Cafe arrived with coffee and scones for our volunteers.
Hair Matters II provided electrical power for our computer and public address system.
Rossignol Woodworking provided scaffolding to decorate for our start and finish line.
Just Write Books created and printed the placement certificates.

Our event was tremendously successful in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Thanks to all who participated in making event this a success.
