Enthusiasm for the day, the cause and the race held throughout a super warm spring day. Over 20 volunteers from the surrounding towns dedicated their Easter Sunday to helping ensure a safe route for the runners and walkers. Two sailors from the USS Peralta came to pitch in and served as road crew at the intersection of Winter and Bridge Streets.
Randolph reported, “Our sponsors provided road signs, traffic cones, printing services, port-a-potties and cash donations. All these donations help us raise awareness of the bridge and place a sizable chunk of money in our maintenance account.” Area businesses and restaurant donated money, gift certificates, in kind services and the loan of equipment. |
The annual Save Our Swinging Bridge 5K benefits the maintenance fund of Save Our Swinging Bridge.Org, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit formed to ensure the maintenance and beatification of the historic bridge. Originally designed and built by the Roebling Co., (legendary designers and constructors of wire rope suspension bridges) in 1892 and rehabilitated in 2006. |
