(Topsham) Have you dreaming of running a race but just didn’t know how to start? Training for your first 5K can give you a reason to get out the door. The good news? If you can run 10 minutes, you can run your first 5K in five weeks from when you begin training.

The better news is that free training is available to ten registered participants of the 14th Annual Save Swinging Bridge 5K. Greater Brunswick Physical Therapy (GBPT) located at 11 Bowdoin Mill Island in Topsham is a sponsor of the Swinging Bridge event and is offering free weekly training sessions for the first 10 people to sign up.

Training sessions are scheduled weekly beginning March 14 on Tuesday nights at 5:30 p.m. with trainers Carl Painchaud-Compton and Lee Spencer.  Lee and Carl will provide a training plan, support and cheerleading to get you ready for the 14th Annual Save Swinging Bridge 5K scheduled April 16 at 10 a.m. at 2 Main Street, Topsham.

Whether your previous reasons for not running a 5K were the loneliness of running, finding yourself in a rut or doubting your ability to finish: working with Carl and Lee will help you be successful in your goal of running race beginning with a 5K.

Call and reserve your training spot today: 837-0558 or email donate@saveourbridge.org.

The two trainers have a wealth of experience and training.

Carl Painchaud-Compton joined the GBPT staff in 2012 with a B.S. in Exercise Science and Kinesiology from University of Maine at Orono. He is certified through the American College of Sports Medicine as a Health Fitness Specialist. In addition to his GBPT work with people helping to improve strength, mobility, and balance through functional exercise, Carl works one-on-one to help people reach their fitness goals.
Lee Spencer joined GBPT in 2015 with a doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of New England. He is currently working on his certification as a specialist in the McKenzie Method. Lee comes to the physical therapy world after a working as systems engineer in the U.S. Air Force with bachelor’s degrees in both Physics and Electrical Engineering. During that career, he found his passion for helping people. As a runner Lee has a special interest in treating runners and still runs competitively, racing distances from the 5K to marathon.

Greater Brunswick Physical Therapy, located at 11 Bowdoin Mill Island, Topsham, provides holistic therapy in a welcoming environment with the most current manual therapy techniques. This approach leads to a more complete resolution of symptoms and helps prevent future recurrence. GBPT is committed to providing the educational and emotional support to help your recovery enhanced by thoroughly listening to your concerns and your priorities.
